27 weeks...end of my 2nd trimester :-)

At 27 weeks, Sophie opens her eyes!  Right now she looks like she will at birth, just a little thinner and smaller!  That is so cool :-)

Other neat things happening this week:
*Her lungs, liver, immune system and hearing are still developing
*Her brain continues to grow and develop rapidly

Things are still going smoothly though I am noticing more aches and pains in my body which is to be expected I guess...Next baby appt. is in 2 weeks and then they begin to happen every 2 weeks instead of every 4!

Happy Halloween everyone!

26 weeks

Jon and I went to the Pumpkin Patch!  We can't wait to take Sophie next year!

I estimated this pumpkin to be about 2 lbs. which is about what Sophie weighs this week :-)

*Highlight of the week!  On Sunday, October 17th, Jon felt Sophie kick for the first time!  He was somewhat sure he had felt her before, but this time it was SO STRONG that it was VERY OBVIOUS.  I can tell she is getting stronger because I feel her everyday and they are full on kicks now!  SO EXCITING!

According to Gerber, between now and week 29, Sophie will have a growth spurt and gain another pound.  She now measures about 14 inches tall and probably weighs about 2 lbs!

Most of this weight is bone and tissue because she still doesn't have much body fat.

Developments this week:
*Eyelashes
*Hair on her head continues to grow
*Her spine is getting stronger and more flexible
*She hasn't put on much fat, but she is beginning to look a little plumper.

25 weeks!

Head to heels, Sophie now measures about 13.5 inches!  She also weighs about a pound and a half.  She is beginning to exchange her long, lean look for some baby fat.  Sophie is also growing more hair and BabyCenter says that if we could see it, we would now be able to discern its color and texture!

We went to the doctor yesterday and things are still looking good.  The heart beat was strong which is always music to our ears :-)  I have to take the dreaded "glucose test" sometime in the next 3 weeks so that should be interesting.  Praise God for Baby Sophie and all of her wonderful family and friends!  Love you guys!

24 weeks!

Sophie is about the length of an ear of corn this week!
She is getting so big!
Sophie has gained about 4 ounces since last week.  She is just over a pound now.  She is almost a foot long-as long as an ear of corn!  Her brain is growing quickly now too and her taste buds are continuing to develop.  Her lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help her air sacs inflate once she hits the outside  world.  Sophie's skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon!

I can tell she is growing because my tummy is continuing to grow!  The teachers are even starting to comment now.  A student even said to me this week, "Mrs.G. it is starting to show now!" :-)  It must now look a little more "baby" and not fat haha!

Praise God I still feel great!  We have another baby appt. on Wednesday!  I'm looking forward to a relaxing weekend and also am looking forward to seeing Rascal Flatts next Friday with our friends and fellow expecting parents, Mark and Becky!

Have a great weekend every one!
