BABY SHOWER!

What a blessing today was!  Thank you to all who came and shared in the fun!  Thanks mom for hosting it!  I love you!  Here are a few pics...there were a lot of great ones so it was hard to choose which ones to include!

32 week update

Hi all! Lots to report today!

Today I start my 8th month!  I can't believe it!  Where has the time gone?  We have about 56 days left!  We can' t wait to meet our little girl :-)

We are looking forward to the wonderful shower my mom will be hosting this Saturday.  We are expecting about 30 lovely ladies that day and can't wait for all of the fun!

We saw the baby doctor (Dr. Martinez) yesterday and she said things are still looking good!  I am measuring (with a tape measure) where I should for 32 weeks (not sure how they know) and she mentioned we may get another ultrasound to see her size in more detail and to check things out before she comes!

I officially met the woman today who will be taking over my class until April.  She is wonderful and I know she will take good care of them while I am away!  She will be coming a couple of days before break starts to shadow me.  I have a really good feeling it will be a smooth transition for her and the kids.

We had fun decorating these letters for Sophie's room!

Fun fact: "Sophie" was # 45 on the Top Baby Names for 2010.  "Sophia" is # 1 :-)  We will be sure people know it is Sophie and not Sophia heehee

Gerber tells me that she is about 4 lbs. this week!  I can really feel it in my body that she is getting heavier.  She is about 16 inches long.  They also say that her appearance changes rapidly this week.  Most of the wrinkles disappear  from her face, and there may be a lot of hair on her head.

Other developments this week

• Nails.  Sophie will have completely formed fingernails and toenails.
• Head movement. She can turn her head from side to side.
• Organs continue to mature.
• Dreaming. Toward the end of the eighth month, she begins dreaming during sleep, according to brain scans.  CRAZY!.

31 weeks...Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  We have so much to be thankful for this year :-)  I hit 31 weeks today!  Here is an update from BabyCenter:

This week, she measures over 16 in. long and weighs about 3.3 lbs.!  (About 4 navel oranges)  She is also heading into a growth spurt.  She can turn her head from side to side, and her arms, legs and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath her skin.  It's funny they mention this next fact because I was kept awake for over an hour last night!  It's the first time this has happened....I told Jon she must be excited for Thanksgiving :-)  They say she's probably moving a lot, too, so you may have trouble sleeping because her kicks and somersaults keep you up.  Take comfort: All this moving is a sign that your baby is active and healthy!  

I couldn't believe what great timing she had with this one!

We look forward to spending today with our friends and family in San Diego and driving home tomorrow to spend time with our family in San Jose.  We have had such a wonderful, relaxing week here in SD.  Until next week...

30 weeks

It's hard to believe that I am already into the last quarter of my pregnancy! (if she stays in there until January 27th)  Things are still going smoothly and I am feeling her all of the time which is fun!  I feel like she is growing stronger and bigger by the day because the belly is getting pretty big :-)

We took a basic baby care class at the hospital this last weekend and learned many things including how to swaddle the baby.  We also took our hospital tour!  

Another fun upcoming event is our San Diego Shower hosted by Grandma Pam this Sunday!  I know it will be such a blessing!  Jon, Sophie and I will be in San Diego all of next week for the Thanksgiving Holiday.  After that, I only have 3 more weeks of work!  I am looking forward to posting pictures from the shower :-)  Love to you all who are following along on our baby blog!

29 weeks!

We went to the baby doctor yesterday and things are looking good. Sophie is still very active and having hiccups almost every day, poor thing.  I have 4 more weeks at work and then I am off until April!  This week and next week are conference weeks, and so far they are going well.  I have some really great kids and parents.  It has been a blessing to work at Sartorette the last couple of months. 

According to Gerber, Sophie is just under 3 lbs. and is about 14 inches long.  Now that organ and nerve development are almost complete, she will start gaining weight very quickly this week-mostly in the form of body fat.  

Her brain continues its important developmental work this week.  During this week brain-wave patterns begin to look like those of a full term baby!

Other highlights this week:

• Kicking (insistent kicking action will occur as her muscles develop.  Later in this trimester, these movements will slow down as she gets bigger and the uterus gets more cramped.
• Skeleton will continue to harden.
• Lungs will continue to mature
• Toenails will continue to grow :-)
• Retinas will continue to develop

It is looking so much like a real baby!  It blows my mind she is in my body like this....eyes open and everything!

3rd trimester!!!

This week I am entering the third and final trimester!  I can't believe how quick it has gone!  Here is what Sophie looks like at 28 weeks!

She is the size of a Chinese cabbage :-)

She is close to 16 in. long and 2.5 lbs.  This week, we had a couple of firsts!  Sophie had her first case of hiccups (the first I could feel at least)...I woke Jon up so he could feel them too.  It was pretty fun.  Also, we went to our first Child Birth Class at Good Samaritan Hospital.  It is exciting to think I will give birth at the same hospital I was born at!  There are 6 other couples in it and I think it is going to be a good, informative time. :-)

I can't believe there are only 12 weeks left (ideally :-)
